Texans' J.J. Watt Wins Home Run Derby at His Annual Charity Softball Game

With a swing of the bat, Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt knocked a home run over the left-field fence at Minute Maid Park.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year beat backup quarterback A.J. McCarron in a home run derby during Watt’s annual charity softball game Saturday night.

The event benefits Watt’s charitable foundation, helping groups in 37 different states with over $5 million donated since its launch.

“It’s an incredible testament to the fans, to the supporters, to the people who donate,” Watt said. “I’m unbelievably thankful to all the fans, all my teammates and volunteers. This is bigger than I ever imagined it to be.

“It’s unbelievable. The amount of money we raised, the experiences, the Tweets, people coming from Maine and Chicago and Florida, it blows my mind. I’m so grateful and thankful. Our goal when we started this was to raise $100,000.”
