AJ played college football for the Boston College Eagles, he shattered the school's all-time rushing yards record with a staggering 4,382 yards. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 62nd pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

AJ met his wife Gabrielle in Wisconsin, and the two tied the knot in June 2022. AJ and Gabrielle are major foodies and also share their love for food through their blog, Dining with the Dillons. The couple welcomed their first child, Algiers Dillon III, also known as "Trey," in May 2023.
